Office Feng Shui
Office Feng Shui
The aim of office feng shui is to create a work environment that supports the core aspects of your business.
- Productivity, concentration and creativity, the atmosphere must feel settled in order to focus, but stimulating enough to move work along in a balanced way. Correct feng shui form is essential to productivity.
- Networking and good relationships with everyone who is connected to your business. Mutually beneficial relationships are a valuable asset for any successful person. A balanced, harmonious office space can help promote loyal, helpful relationships.
- Financial reward and recognition, people are in business to make a living and be profitable. Where there are "money leaks" or the inability to capture business the office feng shui may be weak.
In general there are 3 types of office space:
- The home based office
- The business owner's office in a commercial space.
- The office space of an employee or an executive in a small or large company.
After covering the basic feng shui form for all offices in general, I will offer specific feng shui guidelines for each type of office.
Good feng shui form will allow for the desk to be positioned in the "power" or "commanding location" of the office space. The commanding location is furthest from the door, in full view of the door and overlooking the expanse of the office.
There should be a solid wall behind the desk chair to complete the commanding placement of the desk. The solid wall symbolizes the supportive and protective "mountain" shape in classic feng shui.
This basic feng shui placement of office furniture sets the stage for productivity and concentration; for most people, it is difficult to be fully present and focused with their back exposed to the door.
The commanding location invites connection and relationships while it also denotes authority and managerial over sight.
By facing the door (in full view of the office) you are not only receptive to people but also abundance and financial rewards.
More Tips:
Avoid having shelves above or around the head space while sitting at your desk. Cluttered shelves are the worst. This sends a clear message of pressure that something will always be hanging over your head.
Avoid facing a tall shelf (6 feet or more) in close proximity to your desk because it may feel like you have to climb a mountain every day.
Desk and Chair Design
The powerful executive desk has a full (to the floor) modesty panel in the front. The chair should have a high supportive back without any openings near the lumbar. (See the photo at the top of this page)
