Home Based Business Feng Shui
Feng shui guidelines for the 3 Office Types
The Home Based Office
First understand the core aspects of business feng shui.
In feng shui, the location of the home office is different than in a commercial space.
If you have the choice of selecting a room, choose one in the front of the house where there is more activity. Bedrooms in the rear of the home are usually quieter, less active and stimulating.
By choosing a room near the front of the home it allows your
business to be more connected to the outside world.
In most cases, the front of the home is drawing in exterior energy: people, street and neighborhood activity. The exterior energy will help support a more active and less isolated business atmosphere.
Tip: If you do choose a room in the rear of the home for your office take steps to symbolically enhance it with pictures that depict a connection with commerce and networking. (See Symbolism in Chapter 10 of The Feng Shui Factor.)
If you have a home based business in a room or space that is detached from the house, don't miss the opportunity to enhance the exterior feng shui and entrance to the office. Create a high profile, easily accessible front entrance.
The Business Owner's Office in A Commercial Space.
In a commercial building the offices of the owner and principals of the company should be in the commanding locations, which is the rear, furthest from the front door.
This supports authority and managerial over site.
This idea in feng shui is symbolic in the following ways:
- Nothing will be going on behind your back
- No back stabbing and undermining of authority
- Personnel located too close to the front door may find themselves edged out!
The Office Space of an Employee in A Small or Large Company.
Do everything to meet the basic feng shui criteria in desk and furniture placement. Each company will be different with flexibility and limitations.
If you have to sit with your back to the door place a mirror(s) on either side of your monitor so you can see what's behind you.
Use symbolism in your artwork and decor to raise your professional profile:
- Paintings or posters of mountains and towers symbolize strength and upward movement.
- A pendulum clock supports productivity and helps activate money like a fountain.
- A small decorative globe on your desk symbolizes networking and helpful relationships.
