Feng Shui Compass Reading

Instructions

To determine the basic orientation of your property follow these steps:

  1. Acquire a compass from a sporting goods store or other outdoor outfitter. A medium priced needle or digital compass will be adequate. Do not use a GPS (global positioning system), because you want to measure magnetic orientation versus satellite.
  2. Remove all metal jewelry (rings, watches and bracelets).
  3. For purposes of determining the basic orientation of your home, position yourself in the front of the house with your back to the front door.
  4. Hold the compass waist high and level to obtain your first reading (make a note of it).
  5. Take two more readings a few paces from each other along the same line of the house, i.e. with your back to the house. By taking three readings you can feel confident that your compass reading is consistent within 15 degrees. If you have inconsistent readings there may be some electrical interference or you may be standing in the vicinity of metal pipes. Move locations and determine your general compass orientation.

Feng Shui Cycles

In addition to your compass reading use the table below to determine the period your home was built:

Feng Shui Periods

Both the compass reading and the period your home was built are used in the feng shui consultation and reading.
