Color and Feng ShuiColor and feng shui can be understood and applied in two ways. The classic feng shui colors are associated with the five elements which are correlated to the eight compass directions. The North - Water Element - Colors are blue, black The South - Fire Element - Colors are shades of red, orange The West/Northwest - Metal Element - Colors are gray, white The East/Southeast - Wood Element - Color is green The Northeast/Southwest - Earth Element - Colors are gold, earth tones You can use the classic approach to color and feng shui by incorporating the colors of the compass directions into your design scheme. This will harmonize the particular area of your home or office to the compass direction. The feng shui colors for the five elements can also be used to represent or strengthen a particular element where needed. All colors have attributes that when used excessively will have an impact on the balance of the room. The color red is energizing and vital but used excessively will create constriction, frustration and anger.
The color orange is playful, creative and joyous whereas in the extreme it can be correlated to shock and trauma. On an unconscious level not many people are drawn to the color orange. The color yellow is related to clarity, happiness and health but when used excessively the environment may feel chaotic and confusing. The color green is powerful for new growth, expansion and spaciousness but when used excessively the atmosphere may feel illusory with too much space and no sense of boundaries. The color blue is authoritative and high minded but has an emotive quality and used excessively in the home will "give a person the blues." The color purple is associated with royalty, robes and spirituality but is not conducive for environments where you want people to interact and connect.
