Classical Feng Shui

Modern Homes Ancient Blueprint

Classical feng shui analyzes the home or property in the following way:

1. The relationship of the home or property to its surroundings

2. The shape of the lot

3. The shape of the home including the architecture and floor plan

4. The choice and placement of interior furnishings

A home set in classic feng shui form is described as sitting in an armchair. The land forms around the house support the home. The rear (the back of the chair) is considered the mountain and on the sides (the armrests of the chair) are the smaller hills.

In an urban or suburban setting, the surrounding structures of the home or property are substituted for the land formations in the once ancient rural setting.

You may be able to understand why a home precariously built on the side of hill does not meet the classic feng shui criteria. The rear support of the mountain form is missing. Just looking at a home situated on a hill with no rear support gives you a feeling of instability.

In classic feng shui, we aim for a lot and house shape that is whole, balanced and symmetrical. The balance of the structure and the lot influences the interior balance of the home and it's occupants.

Interior decor including design concept, furnishings and art work will have harmonious elements and life affirming themes.

I encourage you to read my book, The Feng Shui Factor Modern Homes Ancient Blueprint you will gain the skills necessary to interpret your home's setting from a classic feng shui perspective. In the book I adapt all the pertinent concepts to a modern setting.
